Virtual Hills

Well I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I watch the Hills on MTV. Every week I see the commercials, that tell you to create your own avatar and join the game. So, I decided to muck around with it today. It caught my interest a little more than SL. I found it easier to teleport. They start you off with $1,000, and the clothes are very pricey, just like if you were living in LA . You can either follow clues to get more money, or use a credit card. Which I thought was crazy! 1$us = 150 MTV's I can just see teenagers asking their parents to use their credit cards.
To record on here all you have to do is hit ctrl+shift+g. It was easy enough for me to figure it out, I just have to figure out where to find it now! Anyway, for any of you who secretly watch MTV it is worth checking out. I definitely saw more people on here than on SL. Here is the site: Good luck!

Oh, what a great find, Theresa!! and this whole course really is meat to be about celebrating fandom, so don't ever apologise for liking something!! (and it certainly raises interesting questions for discussion re why we often *do* feel the need to apologise for what we're fans of!).

Thanks for telling us about this site. I just finished creating my avatar and "mucking around" inside....lots of fun. I think I may have to find a way to capture some for my movie now.
And Michele, you're right, why do we feel the need to apologize for the objects of our fandom, especially if they fall just outside of society's prescribed standards.

I signed up for the Virtual Hills. I am also a fan! I thought it was much easier to figure out than Second Life. I tried to take some pictures in the program but they kept coming up black. Has anyone tried to take pictures yet? If so, did the same thing happen?

I keep seeing the blurbs after the show for this too and just haven't had a chance to check it out but now I will. No shame in being a fan, I am one too!

I just checked this out. How funny that they are creating a virtual Pimp My Ride too! I wonder how that is going to work ?!? Will people bring their virtual beat up, old cars to a virtual car shop and add rims, vibrant exteriors, bubble machines and sound systems like they do on the show? I guess we will have to wait and see!

i checked this out last night--d1 and d2 were both appalled that i was actually going onto virtualMTV. i poked around just a little bit...i did like the graphics and started capturing some clips right away just in case some inspiration hit. there seemed to be a line for changing your appearance, though, so i haved personalized myself yet.

I downloaded the MTV game, too! It's pretty cool but I need to play around to get it - thanks for the tip!
