Book Recomendation

I just started reading one of the books from Michele's rec list: Everything Bad Is Good For You by Steven Johnson.
I've only read the first chapter and I would highly recommend it. He really makes some interesting points about educational value in video games. Check it out if you can.

Very nice call, Rebecca! Johnson's main thesis is that much of popular culture is actually making us smarter because it's become much more complex than it was in the past (e.g., compare "I Love Lucy" with "Lost" on telly).

I completely agree with you. I am actually using part of this chapter to justify a project that I am using with a language arts enrichment class that I teach to fourth graders. Many parents were hesitant with the creative aspects of one of the digital projects we are requiring for the class. After reading part of this book,I found that many points made by Johnson have provided me with great insight that I can share with skeptical parents.
