Portable Hard Drive

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a portable hard drive? I use a pc and don't have one but thought it would be a good idea to buy one to put all my project stuff on along with some other files, music, and more. Thanks!

Hey Erin,

I have a SanDisk flash drive (memory stick) which has been very reliable for me. I believe you can purchase them with different size memories to suit your needs.

there were a couple external hard drives in this week's sale flyers--check circuit city and staples. as for flash drives, i think they only can hold up to 4 gb or so--an external hard drive could hold 40 gb up to 200, depending on how much you are willing to pay. they connect through the USB port (or that other kind of port which is supposed to be even faster but i can't think what it's called at the moment), though i've had some difficulties accessing files when i've moved between macs and pcs...

I use LacCie external drives and find them to be really robust and highly portable. Neither require externally power which really makes them easy to carry around. I have a 40g one and a 200g one and cannot live without them :D

I recomend the LaCie drives as well. Though I warn against go back and forth between PC and Mac. I've seen that get troublesome.

Yes Innes--they draw power through the USB connection. And excellent advice, Rebecca--moving resources between the same (or different) programs on different platforms can be a nice recipe for disaster! o.0
