Blogs in pro sports
While watching the Celtics-Wizards game tonight the announcers spoke about NBA players having personal blogs and issues around them. In one blog a star player for the Utah jazz noted that he wanted to be traded and was unhappy. Another player used the blog to "trash talk" his opponents. The website is http://www.nba.com/blog/
It's interesting to see these athletes that are making millions a year have a blog for the fans, its an easy fun way for them to stay connected when they are on the road all the time. I was playing around on the site for a while and read some pretty cool stuff..

this is so very interesting, Will! these blogs raise all sorts of important points are what can and can't be said as a professional, as well as the challenge it launches against old stereotypes regarding athletes not being literate, too! A good friend of mine, Jabari Mahiri at the University of California, Berkeley, has done some really fascinating--and sobering--research work on black male athletes on sports scholarships to colleges and the difficulties they have being recognized as capable scholars.
it's pretty sad that in 2007 society can't look at pro athletes as intelligent. A show on HBO called "Hard Knocks" which goes into what training camp in Pro football is like really opens your eyes to the amount of studying a pro athlete has to do. They playbook is, on average, 500 pages long that they have to know. Also, the 2nd pick in the 2004 NBA draft, Emeka Okafor graduated from UCONN with a finance degree and a 3.8 GPA!!
