Manga America
This month's wired magazine features this amazing manga comic of the history of the medium itself. I highly recommend reading it. You can download the pdf from the below link. Print it out if you can - makes reading it a bit easier and you can really get a good look at the graphics that way. Don't forget to start at the last page and read backwards!

One thing I found cool from this is that they claim Disney characters were a major influence on the stories and art style of Osami Tezuka, the so-called "God Of Manga."

Yes--it's fascinating to learn that manga was very much influenced by Disney animations and how influential manga comics and manga drawing styles have become subsequently within the U.S.! If you have time (okay, okay, I can *hear* you all saying, "Yeah. Right!") I thoroughly recommend you watch any movie made by Studio Ghibli, and especially anything in which Hayao Miyazaki has had a hand (e.g., Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and one of my all-time favourite movies ever: Spirited Away). For me, these anime movies provide children (and adults) with incredibly rich narratives that can only be incredibly good for them!
I love Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away!!
