Double-Entry Journal Question
I started doing my double-entry journal on all of the programs I have researched and played around in. I have been giving step by step instructions on the things I have been doing and trying to give a reflection about each one with regard to resources and readings. I think I am on the right track but an example would really help. Michelle, Is it possible that you could post an example on the blogger or on blackboard that we could just refer to? (Even if it is just a page). It would really help to see one in order to make sure I am on board and I am sure other people in class would find it helpful. THANKS!!!!

my double entry journal is in blog form, and it's a bit thin on the "reflection" side, but has plenty of commentary on the "here's what i'm doing side." i'm sure there's substantial percentage of mucking about that i haven't documented, because frankly there isn't time! you'd have to be attached 24/7 to have all your relevant thoughts written down.
i have a little hesitation opening the blog to anybody...but what the heck...it may be interesting to see how quickly spam shows up on the blog!

Thanks so much for making this available for us, Innes! Your blog gives an excellent sense of what you're mucking around with. I'd also like to see some technical stuff, too--like how you are troubleshooting specific technical glitches with your video editing software etc.
And you're definitely on the right track with adding more and more analytic stuff and links to readings etc.
For everyone, here's some feedback I sent recently to one of your colleagues who had sent me a set of journal entries to review:
The left-hand column ideally should read more like fieldnotes--with time markers and everything in it to give me a sense of how much time you're spending on stuff etc. The detail should be enough so that I get a sense of what you're learning to do, too. It really should be like an audit trail in the sense that I can tel at a glance how you're progressing.
Then, I want some pretty serious interpretation and analysis going on in the right-hand corner. this might be here you comment on some paradoxes, etc. (e.g., between how little time we tend to give kids to muck around ad master new concepts/smart tools and how much time we as adults are needing to become proficient with video editing). There might be stuff around group work that you want to comment on. The kinds of things I'm after are captured in the posts on our blog that refer to the readings and make links between what people are doing and what they're reading etc. It might be that you simply choose to focus on the insights you're getting into the "new ethos stuff" out of all the work your doing (but this would need to be detailed and really take on what the "new ethos stuff" means in your own life).
Sooo, this is why everyone is complaining about how much time the double-entry journals are taking (wry smile) but they *are* really important documents for me with respect to obtaining insight into you own learning via your participation in this course.
I am so impressed with your double entry journal. Thank you for sharing it with us. I like how you added your projects throughout along with specific links to readings. I definately agree with you that a good percentage of my "mucking" around is not documented becaue of lack of time. I spend so much time working on different programs that by the time I go to work on the journal I am exhausted and can no longer look at a computer screen. However, I do understand that Michelle would never know how hard we worked and progressed if we didn't document it. Keep up the good work!!!!!
