If you want to register and create an avatar inside Second Life (you have to download client software from http://www.secondlife.com first) this week, then that's perfectly fine; I'll definitely be making space available in class for people do this as well. sometimes it's easier to give this stuff a go in the calm and quiet of your own home, though, so whatever you choose to do is fine with me.
I did it last night. It took a while just playing to get comfortable with the controls. At first, I kept walking into walls or off cliffs! The first place they send "you" is a tutorial world, full of other newbies, so you don't get a sense of interacting with other people right away. My kids are itching to jump in, and I'm sure they'll catch on a lot faster than me!
